Source Water Protection Week

Happy Source Water Protection Week! Source water is the water that feeds our public drinking water supply. It includes groundwater, springs, streams, creeks, rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. Source water protection efforts prevent contaminants from entering the waterways and they can be efforts to maintain and improve health of source water bodies. Court of Valor

York Water is proud to support the Court of Valor at the Prospect Hill Cemetery. This monument is dedicated to local veterans who have earned medals for valor or sacrifice while serving our country. On Sunday, September 15, 2024, the name of 31 veterans will be added to the 441 already incised on the memorial’s surface. All were welcome to remember and reflect all year round.

The 13th Sasquatch Preservation 5K & 10K Trail Run returns to the FNLT preserved South Branch Farms and York Water is proud to hydrate the runners and sasquatches alike. If you are a veteran, in the reserves, or an active military member, York Water would like to honor you with a free run.

All summer long the York community, and visitors alike, have been welcomed by overflowing hanging flower baskets and planters throughout downtown York. These beautiful pieces are made possible by The Garden Club of York and Downtown Inc. and remain well hydrated thanks to “That good York water.”

York Water is pleased to do our part to keep the runners in The Arc of York & Adams Counties 26th annual Rail Trail 10-Miler well hydrated. The race benefits individuals with intellectual and other disabilities in south central Pennsylvania.

York Water’s commitment to our community is extensive and fun. We’ve been collecting all sorts of school supplies, crayons, markers, glue sticks, folders, and much more to equip local children with everything they need to be successful. National Pennsylvania Day

Each year on June 20, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is honored with National Pennsylvania Day. Pennsylvania was founded in 1787 and just 29 years later The York Water Company was formed to offer fire protection for the 2,096 residents and businesses in what is now the City of York (formerly Yorktowne). Today we proudly provide water and wastewater services to over 210,000 people across Adams, Franklin, Lancaster, and York counties. And this July we very proudly reflect on the significance of Pennsylvania and our local ancestors in American history.

Supporting Music

Make Music Day is an annual celebration that occurs each June 21 when people in more than 1,000 cities worldwide make music together. Reusable water bottles were refilled throughout the city at the water stations proudly sponsored by The York Water Company.

National Dam Safety Awareness

Today we join the Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) in celebrating and recognizing National Dam Safety Awareness Day. As a responsible dam owner, The York Water Company is acutely aware of our responsibility to protect our community while at the same time providing water storage and recreation opportunities at our reservoirs. Our newly rehabilitated Lake Williams Dam is designed and constructed to withstand more than 107,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) of flow, an increase in capacity of 69,000 cfs from its original 1912 design. Based upon improved modelling and innovative design and construction techniques, the modified spillway is designed to offer a higher level of protection for everything downstream today and for generations to come.
